Abstract reasoning, also called progressive matrices, is one of the most widely used and most predictive parts of pilot selection. A three-by-three grid of figures follows hidden rules across its rows and columns; work out the rules and choose the figure that completes the grid.

This measures non-verbal inductive reasoning: finding the rule that transforms one set of shapes into the next. Stripped of words and numbers, it is one of the purest measures of fluid intelligence on a selection day.
Look across rows and down columns and check a single feature at a time: first the shape, then how many there are, then how they are filled. Confirm your pick satisfies every rule before committing.
Progressive matrices test fluid, non-verbal reasoning with no words or arithmetic, which is why they are among the fairest and most predictive single tests in selection. Getting all the rules right matters more than raw speed.
Aptitude tests get you through selection. The EASA ATPL theory exams come next, and SkyStudy is built for that phase.
