Frequently asked questions

What is in the bank, where it came from, and how to answer it instead of reading it.

How many questions are in the ICAO English question database?

124 vocabulary items, 63 grammar items, 109 comprehension questions across 36 recordings, and 44 interview questions with an answer plan each. Every count on this page is read from the bank itself, so it is right on the day you read it.

Are these real ICAO English test questions?

No, and no honest database of them exists. Test items are the property of the bodies that write them and are not published. These are original SkyStudy questions written against the same six rated skills the assessment measures, which is why each one carries a note explaining the point rather than only the answer.

Can I practise these instead of just reading them?

Yes. Every group on a category page has a control that opens the same group in the free trainer, where the item is graded, the note appears after you answer rather than beside it, and your weakest area is tracked in your browser.

Is the question database free?

Yes, and there is no sign-up. It is free while SkyStudy is in beta. Each category page lets you browse its groups and open any group in the free trainer.

Which words and grammar does the database cover?

The vocabulary side covers weather, aircraft technical language, emergencies and non-routine events, medical situations, ground operations and security, and plain English against radiotelephony. The grammar side covers past narration, conditionals, passives, prepositions, comparatives, question forms and reported speech, which are the forms an assessor hears you use when you tell a story.
