Block counting tests three-dimensional visualisation. A stack of cubes is shown in an isometric view, with some cubes hidden behind others. Work out the total number of cubes in the stack.

This measures three-dimensional visualisation and counting: working out how many blocks a stack contains, including the ones you cannot see. It tests building and holding a solid mental model.
Add up each column from the base, including cubes hidden behind others, rather than counting visible top faces. A cube with others stacked on it must exist even when you cannot see it.
The usual error is counting only what is visible, which always comes out too low. Build the stack column by column so the supporting cubes underneath are never missed.
